Tucked into Manhattan’s west side, this new NYC neighborhood innovation is tucked between 10th and 12th Avenues between West 30th and 34th Streets. It’s surrounded by some centrally located neighborhood greats, including Chelsea along the southern edge, Hell’s Kitchen to the north and Midtown to the east.
Though this futuristic venture may be small, its features and amenities are mighty. So, here’s a few details to get you acquainted with your new NYC address:
- Cost of living. Housing in Hudson Yards is primarily luxury rental apartment buildings, such as Abington House, and condominiums, including 15 Hudson Yards, most with enviable skyline views and high-end amenities. Much like other parts of downtown Manhattan, you’ll find that paying for housing is at a premium. For those who’d like to rent, consider that the average rent for a studio apartment in the area is about $3,187 per month and a one-bedroom could be around $4,224 per month. If you wish to make an address permanently yours in Hudson Yards, you’re looking at a median listing price of $1.2 million. While housing is at a premium, getting to and from your home may not have the same steep price tag. Taking the Metropolitan Transit Authority’s 7 subway train will get you to the Hudson Yards station at 34th Street at $2.75 for a one-way ride. If other alternative methods of transit aren’t for you, such as the ferry or even a helicopter (there’s a nearby heliport), you could also choose to take advantage of the closest entry to the High Line elevated park (just south of the neighborhood) to walk to nearby locales — and that’s free!
- Shop til you drop. New York City is definitely known for being one of the fashion capitals of the world. So, it may come as no surprise that you can curate your closet from some of the greatest designers and clothing retailers in the world here. While those sartorial sparks can be found all over the five boroughs, you won’t have to travel far to fill your home with stylish finds in the neighborhood. The Hudson Yards Mall boasts an extensive list of shops with Men’s and Women’s fashions, electronics, jewelry, eyewear, beauty products, and even accessories for your canine companion. Seriously, there’s an impressive list of high-end stores housed there, including Brooks Brothers, Cartier, Aritzia, Coach, Dior, Fendi, Kenzo, Rolex, Theory, Tiffany & Co, and Tory Burch among others.
- Taste of Hudson Yards. There’s a lot of flavor packed into these blocks, including coffee shops, fast casual restaurants, and fine dining establishments. If you’ve got a hankering for a quick tasty lunch, pop on over to Fuku for a fried chicken sandwich and a slushy. For those who’s palates ache for more modern food plates, you can choose between modern British cuisine at Queensyard or modern American dishes at Hudson Yards Grill. Dates of the friend or romantic kind may be well complimented by a few glasses of hand-selected Greek wines at Milos Wine Bar. And, if you’re hoping to find a truly unique dining experience, make sure to pencil in time to check out Mercado Little Spain. It’s a Spanish market and food hall located underneath the Hudson Yards Mall so you can get a taste of the diverse flavors from all over Spain.
- Notable neighborhood features. In the design of this neighborhood, plans included the execution of some very impressive and tourist-worthy sites. Take for instance the Vessel: an almost otherworldly and towering honeycomb-shaped structure that contains 154 interconnecting flights of stairs. Visitors can ascend these steps and stop for excellent views of the city on one of its 80 landings. Speaking of seeing the sights, taking it in from the Edge may also be in order. Located at 30 Hudson Yards, it’s the highest sky deck in the Western Hemisphere with a construction that allows for 360-degree viewing of the city. For views of the cultural and art variety, The Shed showcases a variety of artistic expressions from music, painting, theater, literature, sculpture, dance, and even digital media. There are so many special views in this modern neighborhood.
